Due to a misspelling of his last name that was quickly corrected, the T206 Sherry "Magie" card unwittingly achieved immortality as a member of the set's fabled "Big Four." It's not like Magee was some unknown benchwarmer at the time; he was actually a three-time RBI champion and team captain of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1909. Because it was corrected before the first run of "150 series" cards were released, the number of "Magie" cards in existence is thought to be about the same as the T206 Plank at slightly over 100 total copies. Along with the other members of the "Big Four" (Honus Wagner, Eddie Plank, and the Joe Doyle variation), the "Magie" is so scarce that it isn't considered part of the regular set and rarely ever comes up for auction. But if you're a T206 aficionado, today is the day you've been waiting for! The offered specimen is graded AUTHENTIC by SGC but looks like a card in the VG/EX to EX range. The central image is superb, with a robust green field providing the backdrop for Magee's portrait, which is so finely detailed that you can actually see the individual hairs through the light reflecting off of his head. Given the overall appearance of the card, this is an excellent opportunity to land a top-quality example of one of the hobby's most elusive cards.
