It seems like no matter what the issue, whether it's a tobacco, caramel, candy or cabinet card, Hall of Famer Christy Mathewson always ends up on one of the most aesthetically pleasing cards in the series. The E102 "Set of 25" card is no exception, featuring a horizontally formatted image of "The Christian Gentleman" post-pitch with an eye-popping backdrop of blue, orange, yellow and green. Offered is a stunning PSA 5 example that presents several above-grade qualities, not the least of which is the near perfect centering. The colors are vibrant, and unlike some players in the set, the likeness of the lithograph is pretty adequate. Not too surprisingly, given the scarce nature of this mysteriously anonymous issue, only eight superior mid-grade specimens exist on record at PSA.
