There are plenty of high-dollar cards of "The Christian Gentleman" in the hobby, but few have the scarcity and visual appeal of this rare E125 American Caramel Die-Cut issue. In fact, this is the one and only example that PSA has ever graded with three others assessed by SGC, all graded AUTHENTIC. This set is so scarce, says the "big book," that it wasn't even known to exist until the late 1960s. Originally given free with each of their "Action Picture Caramels," according to the information on the reverse, the die cut shows Mathewson in his fearsome wind-up, about to deliver another strike to his next victim. The color is impressive given the crude manufacturing process, and with only a handful known to exist, is bound to be a centerpiece of any advanced vintage collection.
