Considered by many to be the "Godfather of Goaltending", Georges Vezina played seven seasons in the National Hockey Association (NHA) and nine in the National Hockey League (NHL), all with the Montreal Canadiens, and was the ONLY goaltender to stand between the pipes for the Canadians from 1910 to 1925, playing in 327 consecutive regular season games and 39 playoff games before leaving early during a game in 1925 due to illness. Vezina was diagnosed with tuberculosis and died in 1926. In his honor, the NHL created the "Vezina Trophy," presented to the league's top goaltender. During his career, Vezina helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 1916 and 1924 while reaching the Stanley Cup Finals three more times. Presented is an extremely rare C57 card of Vezina that is graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4. The rather spartan black-and-white issue displays a wonderful image of the hockey legend, centered admirably but with a slight tilt to the image. The corners and edges show wear commensurate with the VG/EX grade and the surfaces seem pleasingly bright given the card's age.
1912-13 C57 #1 Geo. Vezina SGC 50 VG-EX 4
