Offered is a very solid, high-end example of one of the most striking baseball cards ever produced, the 1915 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson. During his 17-year career, Mathewson won 373 games and lost 188 for a .665 winning percentage. His career earned run average of 2.13 and 79 career shutouts are among the best all time for pitchers, and his 373 wins are still number one in the National League, tied with Grover Cleveland Alexander. He was in the twilight of his career when this card was issued, about to experience his first losing season, but the tendered collectible is certainly no loser. Graded NM-MT 8 by the stringent evaluators at SGC, a clearly defined image of the Christian Gentleman projects with an illusion of depth against the profoundly saturated red backdrop, framed by clean, white borders that keep the red pigment perfectly confined to the central image. The reverse is struck in extremely bold black ink, showing absolutely no signs of product staining. A truly stunning masterpiece deserving of inclusion in the most advanced of world-class collections!
