Though produced late in his career, 41-year old Honus Wagner is depicted on this 1915 E106 American Caramel card having already notched eight National League batting titles while also topping the league in doubles seven times, triples three times, RBI four times and stolen bases five times. With "The Flying Dutchman" absent from virtually every tobacco issue during the time period, examples like this can immediately propel an advanced collection into the ranks of the elite. PSA has graded just 16 examples of this card, less than half the number of T206 Wagners on record at PSA, and this is the one and only PSA 5 example with none graded higher. As impressive as that sounds, the card itself really speaks volumes as it clearly projects in excess of the grade. Near perfectly centered side to side with maybe a degree or two of preference toward the bottom edge, the key feature after the incredibly bold and well-printed central image of the batting Wagner is the strength of the perimeter, technically accurate for the EX grade but appearing sharper, especially at the endpoints. The American Caramel ad reverse is surprisingly bright with just a hint of age toning. Not just the finest in existence but certainly one of the most enticing examples of Honus Wagner that comes out of any baseball card series.
