Even though Shoeless Joe Jackson was a full-time starter since 1911, posting a combined .381 batting average over his first four seasons, his appearance in the legendary M101-5 series is often overshadowed by the rookie card of Babe Ruth. While that's completely understandable, the M101-5 Joe Jackson card, along with his 1909 E90-1 American Caramel rookie card and 1914-15 Cracker Jack issues, creates an amazing foursome that is included in the stable of virtually every world-class early 20th century collection. Thought to be a co-conspirator by some but an unwitting victim to many others, his character may be in question but his offense prowess certainly wasn't. Even with his career cut short, having been banished from the game at just 32 years old, Jackson still ranks #26 all-time in triples and third behind Ty Cobb and Rogers Hornsby for lifetime batting average (.356). Near perfectly centered and boasting one of the finest authentic representations of the infamous diamond great in the prime of his tumultuous career, this blank-backed SGC 80 EX/NM 6 example is bolstered by upper-end NM/MT endpoints that make it an extremely satisfying example for the grade. The story of Joe Jackson is a unique and tragic tale, but this beauty is one of the rare specimens that presents the Shoeless one at the top of his game!
