Graded VG/EX+ 4.5 by SGC. The offered example from the 1921 E121 American Caramel series shows an older photo of Babe Ruth in his Boston Red Sox garb while acknowledging his "R. F. - New York Americans" status on the card. American Caramel actually issued three different versions of this card, one with his actual name George in the nameplate, one with his nickname Babe, and the variation offered here, one with "Babe" in quotation marks. While previous cards of Ruth were somewhat popular at the time given his accomplishments as a pitcher, which included an impressive 87-45 record and 2.16 ERA from 1915-1919, it was Babe's performance in the 1920 season that put an end to the dead ball era and changed the game forever, posting 54 homers in just 458 official at-bats, having walked a league leading 150 times while still maintaining a .376 batting average. The featured collectible has been awarded the hefty grade of VG/EX+ 4.5 by SGC which is reasoned when considering the following attributes. To start with the four corners each come to defining points with the bottom two corners showing ever so slight evidence of their age with an ever so slight chip of the enamel apparent at the extreme tips of the corners. The surface is a smooth rendition with no apparent pitting or notching along its entirety. The centering shows an ever so slight preference to the left edge but still more than adequately frames the greatest player the game has ever known. The reverse completes this ensemble with a well-printed advertisement void of any staining and succinctly matching the attractiveness of the obverse. A fantastic copy offered in strict VG/EX+ condition.
