While the 1933 Goudey collection contains some of the most recognized pasteboards in the hobby, including multiple poses of many Hall of Famers, nothing beats "the yellow Ruth," card #53 in the series and one of the top ten most important cards ever produced, according to most experts. Although he was 38 years old at the time, Ruth still delivered a very productive season by batting .301 with 34 homers and 104 runs batted in. "The Bambino" appears on four different cards in the '33 Goudey series, but the yellow Ruth is generally considered the most highly coveted and the toughest to find in high grade. The featured item displays many above-grade attributes as far as perimeter strength and surface quality, which helps to counterbalance the centering variance toward the right side. The green print on the reverse is bold and clean while the susceptible yellow backdrop yields only traces of stray print. Overall, this is an extremely strong representative for the grade!
