He may not have been as dominant a slugger as Babe Ruth, as durable a superstar as Lou Gehrig, or as popular an icon as Mickey Mantle, but Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio is the best representative of the New York Yankees dynasty as the Italian son of Ellis Island immigrants; the perfect match for the pre-war Bronx melting pot. His play on the field wasn't too shabby either, with two American League batting titles, two home run titles, three MVP awards, nine World Series titles in 10 appearances, and 13 all-star nods in 13 seasons. "The Yankee Clipper's" 1941 Play Ball card isn't the most significant of Joe DiMaggio cards ever produced but it's arguably the most beautiful with DiMaggio finishing his famous swing in the foreground of a rich yellow, green and deep purple-colored backdrop. Had DiMaggio not sacrificed three seasons during the prime of his career to enlist in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII he would assuredly have hit well over 400 home runs and amassed close to 2,000 runs batted in. This colorized 1941 card of Joe DiMaggio is the linchpin of the Play Ball set and, in PSA 8 condition, will elevate any high-caliber collection to the status of world-class. Each corner meets or exceeds the criteria for NM/MT, especially the top two endpoints, while the interior is powered by a colorful rendition of the Yankee legend. Centering is outstanding, mildly positioned toward the bottom edge. With only 6 graded higher, it's a card worthy of any advanced collection.
