Upon gazing at this 1949 Bowman card of Hall of Famer Satchel Paige, the word "wow" comes to mind. Known within baseball circles as one of the more talented fireballers in baseball history, the enigmatic superstar finally got his chance to show off his abilities in the major-leagues after the great Jackie Robinson dared break the longstanding color barrier. Paige was reported to be 41 years old when he first took the mound for the Indians in 1948, but still posted a 6-1 record with an impressive 2.48 ERA, tossing two shutouts in his 7 starts. The featured card is nothing short of a miracle, a PSA 9 example that features rare perfect centering, immaculate surfaces, and corners that push for GEM MINT quality; virtually unheard of in this series. In true Bowman form, a light to moderate rough cut lines the vertical edges of the brilliantly white borders while the depth of the red and blue pigmentation on his Indians cap has retained all of the boldness bestowed upon it almost 75 years ago. To date, over 1,000 have been graded by PSA and just 9 others match this example at the PSA 9 level with none graded higher. A truly spectacular specimen!
