There are few cards in the 1952 Topps series, or any series for that matter, that can match the regal presentation of "The Say Hey Kid." In his book, "The Top 200 Sportscards in the Hobby", former PSA President Joe Orlando identifies the main condition concerns with the offered Mays issue: centering and tilt, cleanliness of borders, and image color and clarity, but the presented PSA 8 specimen scores extremely high, in all categories. Further, when we consider that its population report at PSA (70 at or above NM/MT 8) isn't really all that much higher on the population report for card #311, the famed Mickey Mantle high-number issue (49 at or above NM/MT 8), and we continue to collectively embrace the notion that Mays was unquestionably the better player, so we can't help but understand why so many collectors believe the sky's the limit for this prominent hobby icon. The card shows a very minor preference for the bottom edge, however, the corners are unquestionably of NM/MT quality, the color is absolutely superb, and there's even a light rough cut along the top edge. The reverse is exactly as expected for such a loft assessment, clean with bold, pack-fresh black and red print. It's a remarkable example of 1952 Topps excellence and a springboard toward building one of the finest sets in existence!
