If you took a survey of collectors' favorite 1952 Topps card, the result would naturally put Mickey Mantle in first place. That's completely understandable; "The Mick" is an unmatched icon and the unbelievable prices that '52 Topps Mantle cards command is enough to sway anyone's opinion. But for sheer aesthetics, taking value out of the equation, the pasteboard of Roy Campanella would rate right near the top of the list. The huge color depiction of the always smiling "Campy" surrounded by the incredible glow of a sun-soaked backdrop is an immediate eye-grabber. But as a member of the infamous high number series, it's usually blemished by poor centering and stray print. Not this time! The presented MINT specimen is one of just 4 to achieve a MINT designation by PSA and it would be a challenge for those other three to match this prize for color and strength of perimeter. The centering is not quite perfect, slightly favoring the southwest, but the outstanding endpoints and clean surfaces make a strong case for GEM MINT status. If you're looking to improve your elite collection, adding this card is a great way to do it!
