The 1954 Topps rookie card of Ernie Banks is rarely seen at the PSA 8 grade level for several reasons, first and foremost being the issue of centering. With no top border and a white background, it can be difficult to gauge the centering parameters of the card, though the common centering shift toward the top is apparent when a large part of his name is cut off. Also, with the bright backdrop, there is often unwanted stray print that will limit the overall assessment. Of course, if you can get past those two factory pitfalls, you still have to have a well-preserved card worthy of NM/MT consideration. The featured card has it all, and adds a stunning rough cut along the right side as well. Two of the four corners go slightly above the NM/MT mark with MINT edges and a front surface that houses a well-registered image of the young "Mr. Cub." The reverse, shows no more than light traces of chipping along the green edges, with unusually vibrant color that is only present on well-preserved examples such as this. A truly fantastic card that will make a huge impact on the PSA Set Registry or serve as a cornerstone to any world-class collection.
