Sandy Koufax's all too brief career could be split right down the middle as the dividing line between untapped potential and legendary greatness. His first six seasons; 36-40 with a 4.10 ERA, and his last six seasons; 129-47 with a 2.19 ERA, four no-hitters, one perfect game, three Cy Young Awards, one NL MVP, and four times the league's strikeout king. It's no wonder that his 1955 Topps rookie card laid dormant as a "common" for many years and suddenly became one of the hottest collectibles in the hobby years later. Noticeably absent from the PSA 7 example offered here is the notorious black print commonly found in the upper portion of the background that is a key ingredient in the tremendous overall visual appeal of this cardboard gem. With strong corners and brilliant color, only the centering bias toward the left horizontal edge prevents consideration of a higher grade from PSA.
