After his iconic 1951 Bowman and 1952 Topps cards, the 1956 Topps card of Mickey Mantle is without question one of the quintessential cards in the entire hobby! Capturing Mantle leaping against the outfield wall of Yankee Stadium, who wouldn't be captivated by this alluring pasteboard? The four corners project as splendid points worthy of the NM/MT assessment, while the color and brightness of the near perfect frame is thoroughly pack-fresh. The reverse is well imaged and void of any hindrances. Only 5 seasons prior, Mantle was struggling to live up to the hype of becoming "the next Joe DiMaggio," almost quitting the game and moving back home to a life of manual labor. But 1956 was the year that the legend was born, completing a Triple Crown season of 52 homers, 130 RBI and a .353 batting average while capturing the first of his three American League Most Valuable player awards. An extremely important card for any world-class collector, and this particular PSA 8 example will take your breath away!
