No one in their right mind could have imagined that a Johnny Unitas rookie card would ever be anything more than a common when it came out of the pack in 1957. Drafted in the 9th round by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Unitas was released before the start of the season because head coach Walt Kiesling thought he was not smart enough to quarterback an NFL team. Spoiler alert ... Kiesling was wrong. Presented for your consideration is a solid PSA 8 NM/MT example of "Johnny U's" 1957 Topps rookie card with profoundly saturated green and orange pigments and two crisply focused images of the football legends. Corners and edges are well within the standards for the assessed NM/MT grade with just a mild centering preference for the horizontal right edge. Whether it's to fill a hole in a top-notch set or a HOFer collection, this sharp beauty gets it done.
