The 1957 Topps set is loaded with key rookie cards of Hall of Famers, but the set is known for "the big three" of Paul Hornung, Bart Starr, and Johnny Unitas. As the #1 overall pick in the 1957 NFL draft, it was understandable that the rookie card of "The Golden Boy" was a hot commodity, but Starr (17th round pick in 1956) and Unitas (9th round pick in 1955) were toiling on the bench and weren't even included in previous sets. In fact, Unitas was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers before the start of the season because they thought he was not smart enough to quarterback an NFL team. Presented for your consideration is a solid PSA 8 NM/MT example of "Johnny U's" 1957 Topps rookie card with intensely saturated green and orange pigments and two crisply focused images of the football legend. Corners and edges are well within the standards for the assessed NM/MT grade with just a mild centering preference for the horizontal left edge. The reverse is very clean and the black printing of the statistics and bio are particularly bold. A wonderful example of one of the most popular football cards ever produced by Topps!
