In 1957, Jim Brown entered his rookie season and promptly led the NFL in rushing yards, a feat he would accomplish in eight out of nine seasons over his career. Although his Cleveland Browns lost in the championship game, they were starting to resemble a football version of the New York Yankees as the team had played in the title game in seven out of the eight seasons in the 1950s, winning three times. It was a case of the rich getting richer; a perennial powerhouse with a rookie running back who would go on to become arguably the greatest rusher in NFL history. Yet, Jim Brown's rookie card didn't appear until the 1958 Topps series, giving collectors the opportunity to chase after what was the most anticipated debut pasteboard to date. Those fortunate to find 1958 packs in cello pack form undoubtedly searched the boxes, checking the top and bottom cards for their favorite superstars as well as football's newest sensation. As a result, extremely few cello packs like the one feature here have survived, sporting a fantastic example of Jim Brown right on top. While the pack is graded PSA 7, the Jim Brown card appears superior, near-perfectly centered, and largely free of the significant stray print that limits most cards to lower and mid-grade. As far as unopened football packs go, this is about as good as it gets!
