The 1958 season marked the first time since he ascended to the big leagues in 1955 that Brooks Robinson would be a full-time starter. Although his bat wasn't much to speak of (only 3 homers and a .238 batting average over 463 at bats), his fielding prowess was already catching the attention of the baseball world. Two years later, he would win the first of 16 consecutive Gold Glove awards while bringing his power numbers up where he would mash 20 or more homers six times. With none graded higher and just a mere 8 others like it in its pinnacle MINT 9 class at PSA, the presented high-grade example of Brooks Robinson's 1958 Topps second-year issue ranks among the most challenging superstar cards to find in MINT condition from the latter half of the 1950s. The obvious highlight to this enchanting high-grade scarcity is its perfectly registered image, supported by a noticeably warm powder blue backdrop and sun-drenched yellow nameplate, all free from stray print. Astute centering and nearly perfect endpoints has to leave one wondering if, on another day, this card has the right stuff to be the first to step into the GEM MINT spotlight!
