Presented here is a stunning example of Sandy Koufax from the first year of production of Morrell Meats Dodgers cards. Though it uses the same image as the 1961 Morrell Meats card, the '59 version is significantly more difficult to obtain with just 16 other examples on file at PSA, none of which come remotely close to matching this PSA 7.5 as the next best one's rate at just PSA 5. Shown after the move out west but during the pre-Dodger Stadium days when the team played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the fact that Koufax is even included in the issue is a testament in the team's confidence in him as he had yet to have a productive season on the bump and was still years away from his six-year run of dominance the likes of which have rarely been seen. The offered card shows virtually nothing more than light chipping along the delicate full-bleed edges or even at the extreme tips. The reverse is completely free of the customary product staining, adding an extra layer of allure to the card. An absolute blazer for the series and one of the single greatest additions a Koufax collector can hope to acquire.
