From a sheer numbers standpoint, there has never been an athlete in any sport, anywhere around the world, that dominated so thoroughly as did Wilt Chamberlain in the NBA. Oh sure, the careers of Babe Ruth and Wayne Gretzky are well-documented, and you could certainly make a case for either. But c'mon, Wilt Chamberlain AVERAGED over 50 points in the 1961-62 season, leading the league in points per game his first six seasons. Wilt Chamberlain AVERAGED over 20 rebounds in his first 12 seasons, leading the league 11 times. In today's NBA, a 50 point or 20 rebound night makes headlines; for "Wilt the Stilt " it was just a typical game. And he did it while playing virtually every minute of every game; even in his final season, at age 36, he was on the floor an average of over 43 minutes per game. Sorry "Bambino", sorry "Great One", gotta give it to Chamberlain. While it might be absurd to think that this PSA 8 graded 1961 Fleer rookie card is undervalued, when you compare it to other rookie cards that have seen a meteoric rise as of late, it actually just might be. Near-perfect centering, a rarely used term to describe a Chamberlain RC, teamed with robust color, blinding white borders, and corners that we dare say look closer to MINT than NM/MT status, account for the elevated if not slightly conservative grade. The lightly cream-colored reverse reports no significant defects, and the overall quality is truly pack fresh. An incredible example of one of basketball's most important debut pasteboards.
