This card of World Series hero Bill Mazeroski comes from a test set so scarce that many collectors didn't even know it existed. In fact, this is only the third or fourth time known that more that one example from the 1961 Topps Dice Game collection has been featured in an auction, a testimonial to how stunningly scarce these cards are. And the grade of SGC 2 on this example of "Maz" is inconsequential considering it's the first of its kind ever introduced to the public, but the reason for the low grade adds to the allure of the card. Writing on the back of the card appears to be from the research and development department, who actually played the game and made specific changes to the cards to make it more statistically realistic. In this case, a roll of a 9 against a pitching choice of change up was changed from a flyout to a single. Without the writing, the card appears to be in the VG/EX to EX range. Unlike other extremely rare test sets, this one was discontinued in the early stages and was never intended to leave Topps' headquarters in any form.
