Ever since Topps jumped into the market in 1952, collectors and fans helped propel the fledgling trading card company into a baseball card dynasty. But basketball was a little trickier. Several companies tried unsuccessfully to gain traction with "one and done" collections that included 1948 Bowman, 1957 Topps, and 1961 Fleer. Topps gave it another go in 1969, taking a page out of their "tall-boy" playbook that was so successful with the Joe Namath rookie card and tried it again with the debut of Lew Alcindor. They enjoyed a nice run but ultimately ceased operations after 1981, leaving an opening for Fleer to try once again several years later. The 1986 Fleer set was born and now stands as the standard-bearer of the basketball card market. The ultimate in basketball card sets, the collection has been made famous by not only the iconic Michael Jordan rookie card but also the debut pasteboards of several hardcourt legends, including Barkley, Drexler, Dumars, Ewing, K. Malone, Mullin, Olajuwon, I. Thomas, Wilkins, and Worthy. That's quite a cast, and to make the offered complete 1986 Fleer set even more enticing, each and every card is graded PSA 8 or higher, earning it an overall set rating of 8.2. PSA 9 graded cards include #16, 26 Drexler, 27 Dumars, 28, 31 Erving, 36, 46, 47, 49, 51, 58, 59, 69, 71, 73, 74, 75, 76, 84, 87, 91, 93, 101, 102, 105, 111, 122, 123, 124, 125, and 127, with a PSA 8.5 #64, and every other card, including the Michael Jordan RC, graded PSA 8. Included is the elusive 11 sticker subset with MJ, Bird, Erving, and several other significant subjects that extremely tough to find, all graded PSA 8.
