Fleer returned to the basketball card market in 1986 and produced a set that was heavy on "rookie" cards, the term used lightly since most of the debut cards weren't actually of rookies but rather first appearances that came into the league after the last issue by Topps in 1981. As such, there weren't any significant rookies left to introduce the next season. Ah, but then the 1988 Fleer collection rolled out with a third-year Michael Jordan card and a true bumper crop of rookies led by Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Reggie Miller, and John Stockton. Once again, the sticker insert series was led by MJ and, as with the previous two years, is notoriously difficult to find centered and fetches an even bigger premium than his regular card in high-grade. The inclusion of an additional Jordan card as part of an All-Star series greatly increases the number of Michael Jordan issues that can be pulled from a pack, or a box, or in this case, well, a case! Featured here is a sealed case of 12 unopened 1988-89 Fleer basketball boxes, which have been examined, authenticated, and wrapped by Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE). Beneath the BBCE wrapping, you can see that the factory seal is still intact as this case likely went straight into storage and remained unadulterated for well over 30 years. One can only imagine the number of GEM MINT examples of the aforementioned rookie cards, Jordan cards, and other key cards that might one day emerge from this case, but it's a pretty safe bet that whether it remains sealed is opened, the value of the case or individual cards will continue the upward trend that it has enjoyed over the past few years.
