Offered is one of the finest and rarest test releases Topps has ever issued. A stunning and immensely attractive 1968 Topps 3D Proof sheet encompassing nine different cards including the immortal Roberto Clemente, as well as Bill Robinson, Ron Swoboda, Tony Perez, Willie Davis, Ron Fairly, and Jim Maloney as well as unissued proof cards of John O’Donogue (proof card - No Team/Player Designation – of note the background used on this card is completely different from the other proof examples that are known in the hobby) and Tommy Davis (proof card - No Team/Player Designation) Serious and advanced collectors have long held the 1968 Topps 3D set in an esteemed place as the set is absolutely one of the most attractive and scarce Topps test issues ever released. What is not known about the set may actually be the one thing that elevates to sets popularity to high levels. It is not known whether or not the 1968 Topps set was actually sold in retail stores, it is believed that more than likely it was sold in very few stores around Brooklyn, NY. The very fragile nature of the 1968 Topps 3D set has long been known as each of the cards is encased in a plastic like surface that allows for the three dimensional appearance but also allows the cards to crack. The featured sheet does not have the final application of the plastic sheen applied and comes from Topps and or Xograph which is the company that Topps partnered with to coproduce the test issued cards. The condition of the sheet is above reproach with a NM/MT appearance with no cracking or creasing apparent (please note there a very few of these sheets which is most likely just two, the offered sheet is by far superior as the other sheet has a mild center crease) The blank reverse is perfectly clean. The offered collectible is an extremely important uncut sheet of 1968 Topps 3-D baseball cards which includes a stunning example of key card Roberto Clemente, one of Clemente's most important cards, and one of the most famous of all 1960s Topps cards. A fantastic addition to any upper end collection.
