Every so often, an unopened 1961 Topps football one cent wax pack becomes available though an auction site and collectors stand ready to pounce. But try finding a sale for the nearly impossible five cent wax pack and you're gonna come up empty. Actually, we spent about a half hour just trying to find a photo online of a five cent pack and were unable to do so. So imagine the amazement that rushed through our office when we learned that we wouldn't be offering just a single five cent wax pack but an entire unopened box! While the 1961 Topps football set isn't known for a wide array of important rookie cards, it does present a challenge to find top-notch MINT and GEM MINT examples of Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, and Jim Brown, any or all of which may be found within these confines of the absolutely pristine NM/MT to MINT packs. Apparently acquired and immediately locked away, the packs and the box itself appear just as they did when they were originally offered over 50 years ago, when collectors were still talking about the Mantle-Maris home run chase or JFK's mission to send a man to the moon. The original advertisement to the retailer is included and the box has been sealed and labeled by BBCE, who told us that they have never seen a complete box, and of the less than 10 backs they've evaluated, they were almost all EX at best with bleeding gum.
