The 1965 baseball season was nothing short of spectacular, capped off with the Los Angeles Dodgers defeating the Minnesota Twins in 7 games to win their fourth World Series championship in franchise history. Sandy Koufax paced the Dodgers all season, posting a 26-7 record with 27 complete games, 8 shutouts and a perfect game while shortstop Zoilo Versailles delivered a career year for the Twins, winning the American League Most Valuable Player Award while leading the league in runs, doubles, and triples. And Topps released the 1965 set, a bold offering that featured excellent photography and remarkably intense color. Many avid collectors found the the 1965 set to be a comeback for Topps, panning the 1964 collection as a disappointment that lacked significant rookie cards and appeared too conservative in comparison to the wildly colorful collection of the previous season. But rookie cards were back with a vengeance in '65 as Hall of Famers Tony Perez, Catfish Hunter, Joe Morgan and Steve Carlton made their debut. With a whole slew of single printed high-numbers added to the mix, the '65 Topps set was and continues to be a huge success with collectors. We've has the pleasure of offering several 1965 Topps sets in the past that rate near the top of the PSA Set Registry rankings, but now it's our honor to feature the very best assemblage on record, the #1 rated Master Set that holds an astonishing overall set rating of 9.848. Over one-third of the cards in the collection, 211 in all, are graded PSA 10 with 22 of them listed as the only GEM MINT examples on record and 38 others sharing the top spot with just one other. Key PSA 10 cards include #1 AL Batting Ldrs., 5 AL RBI Ldrs., 6 NL RBI Ldrs., 10 NL Pitching Ldrs., 12 NL Strikeout Ldrs., 95 Mazeroski, 155 Maris, 187 Stengel, 193 Perry, 205 Spahn, 377 Stargell, 500 Mathews, 513 Yankees Team and 540 Brock.
