The 1950 Trenton Giants finished in the middle of the pack in the class B Interstate League but manager Chick Genovese knew he had an up and coming star when the youngest player on the team at 19-years old managed just 4 homers but led the squad with .353 batting average. That 19-year old kid became "The Say Hey Kid" and Willie Mays went on to baseball immortality. Young Willie Mays and three of his Trenton teammates have signed this baseball, which appears to be a game-used ball from July 2, 1950, as indicated by the inscription (in an unknown hand). Mays has added the word "colored" under his name. One of the first if not actually the earliest known example of a Willie Mays signed ball as a professional in the major league system. LOA from JSA.
