Mel Ott was one of the greatest home run hitters in baseball history, slugging 30 or more homers in eight different seasons for the New York Giants. He's also one of the toughest autographs of the players of his day, having passed at age 49. While the number of Ott signatures are already far short of the supply, very few can be found on a completely handwritten letter such as the one featured here. Written on Hotel Kerns stationery (Lansing, Michigan) and dated November 15th, 1958, the letter reads, "Dear Dan, please pardon my delay in answering your letter of Oct. 16. I will be very happy to autograph your ball. If you send it to my address I will sign it and return it to you, Mel Ott." It's very unlikely Dan got his autographed ball; Ott passed away just 6 days later. The letter is framed along with a black and white photo to a size of 19" x 14." Possibly the last letter Mel Ott ever wrote. LOA from PSA/DNA.
