One of the most dominant hurlers of his day, Grover Cleveland Alexander had already racked up 190 wins by age 30 on his way to 373 lifetime victories, leading the league in wins five of his first seven seasons. Even small cuts of Cleveland's autograph are hard to find, but this Dec. 11th, 1943 full handwritten letter is a truly elite piece. Written on stationery from The Ohio Book Store, the letter talks about supplying an autograph but not having a picture to send, instead enclosing a business card from the manager of the store so that the writer can contact the manager to get a photo. It seems the writer did even better by acquiring a 7 1/4" x 9 1/4" original Type I Atlantic & Pacific News Service photo, which is framed alongside the letter to a total size of 19" x 14 1/2." A full LOA for both the letter (Graded PSA/DNA 9) and the photo are included as well as the business card and the original envelope, also in Alexander's hand.
