It's "The Babe" and ... well, the babe. Following his transfer to the New York Yankees in December of 1919, Babe Ruth joined his new team in New York and was informed his pitching days were over, becoming an everyday position player in the outfield and occasionally at first base. Ruth responded with an unprecedented 54 homers, 135 RBI and posted a robust .376 batting average. The featured photo shows the "Big Apple" sensation holding a baby, with a notation on the reverse in an unknown hand that says, "Babe Ruth and baby of Chet Thomas" with an N. E. A. stamp dated July 31, 1920. The photo measures 6 5/8" x 9 1/2" and shows moderate wear on the surface with a one-inch tear on the right and left edges that has been taped. One of the best photos of Babe Ruth we've ever offered snapped at the very early stages of his New York Yankees tenure.
