In 1938, New York Yankees great Lou Gehrig signed on with Twentieth-Century Fox to star in the movie "Rawhide," a western with Lou Gehrig as himself who decides to give up baseball to become a western cattle rancher only to be preyed upon by a protection racket that he ultimately thwarts with the help of a local attorney. Unfortunately, Gehrig actually did have to leave baseball just a little over a year after the film was released, a result of the worsening effects of the disease that ultimately took his life. The featured 6" x 8" menu card comes from the New York Yankees 1938 World Series victory dinner, signed by Yankees trainer Doc Painter and teammates Johnny Murphy and Lefty Gomez, but the real attraction here is the autograph of movie star Lou Gehrig, one of the strongest examples we've seen of "The Iron Horse" with "Rawhide, Lou Gehrig, Hi Ho Silver" penned on the right side of the card. An amazingly unique item capturing the lighter side of the great Lou Gehrig. LOA from PSA/DNA.
Absolutely Stunning 1938 "Victory" Dinner Menu Signed by Lou Gehrig with Terrific Content
