Four decades of Yankees royalty in the form of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio pose together on this sprawling 9 3/4" x 14 1/4" black and white photo from 1937, commemorating the recipients of the All America Board of Baseball Award. A concept created strictly for publicity purposes by promoter Christy Walsh, Babe Ruth served as the chairman of the All-American Committee, whose function was to honor the game's best players at each position. The "Bambino," along with one sportswriter from each of the league's major league cities, made the selections and signed the certificates bestowed upon the winners. Gehrig and DiMaggio are positioned on the ends of the top row with a suited Ruth in the center, joined in the photo by Red Rolfe, Carl Hubbell, Dick Bartell and Red Ruffing with a stunning signature that reads, "To Joseph James Bihler, Best Wishes From Babe Ruth 1937" in bold fountain pen. Matted and framed to a total size of approximately 16 3/4" x 21 3/4." Some creasing appears scattered along the surface but the piece presents very well and is likely a one of a kind item. LOA from JSA.
