One of the greatest Cuban outfielders of all-time, Alejandro Oms won the Cuban League batting title three times and the Most Valuable Player Award in 1928-29. His career .345 batting average ranks #2 all-time in the Cuban League. Oscar Charleston had a 43-year baseball career as a player and manager, posting a career .339 batting average over 26 seasons in the Negro Leagues. The two baseball legends appear with twelve of their Santa Clara Leopardos teammates in this incredible 4 1/4" x 6 1/2" photo, circa 1921-22, just before officially entering the Cuban League during its expansion from two to four teams. Two seasons later, the two superstars would anchor what is widely considered the greatest Cuban League team in baseball history, with Oms (.384 average) and Charleston (.379 average and 32 stolen bases) helping guide the team to a .329 average and a record of 36-11-1. Martin Dihigo, Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige would later star for the Leopards. The photo has very minor wear and slight yellowing but considering its age, is in truly remarkable condition. A fantastic piece of baseball history! LOA from PSA/DNA.
