The 1921 New York Yankees are considered by many baseball historians to be the greatest team not to win a championship. The Bombers looked to be cruising to a World Series title when Ruth was injured with the Yankees holding a 3-1 series lead and proceeded to drop the next four games with "The Bambino" out of the lineup. The featured type I original photo comes from the camera of Paul Thompson and is one of the most famous and often duplicated poses of that fantastic '21 Yankees squad, displaying the original "murderer's row" lineup that featured (left to right) Wally Pipp, Babe Ruth, Roger Peckinpaugh, Bob Meusel and Frank "Home Run" Baker, who returned to the Bronx in '21 after missing the entire 1920 season following the passing of his wife. Notations of the players on the reverse are accompanied by a Paul Thompson photography stamp. Usual wear from an almost century-old photo is present but far more mild than usual given the age. Measures 7 3/4 x 9 3/4 with an LOA from PSA/DNA.
