Though often overshadowed by the expansive T206 series and the grandeur bestowed upon the scarce issues of Honus Wagner and Eddie Plank, the T205 release of the same approximate time period is no less a true masterpiece that celebrates the era of tobacco cards in grand style, adding a shimmering gold perimeter that, while a very enticing addition in terms of eye-appeal, causes condition issues that make even mid-grade specimens tough to acquire. The 1 1/2" x 2 5/8" cards were inserted into packs of American Beauty, Broad Leaf, Cycle, Drum, Hassan, Hindu, Honest Long Cut, Piedmont, Polar Bear, Sovereign, and Sweet Caporal, and were the first baseball cards to offer biographical information and statistics of the player on the reverse. Building a solid set is difficult but this collection of 138 cards gets you well over halfway toward assembling the basic set. It already ranks in the top 20 on the PSA Set Registry with plenty of room for improvement, with key cards graded PSA 4 of Christy Mathewson, Tris Speaker, Bobby Wallace and Cy Young. In fact, every card in the collection is graded PSA 4 or higher, with a PSA 6 Mattern, PSA 5.5 examples of Eddie Collins (Closed Mouth) and Pfeister, and 16 cards graded PSA 5 that include Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy.
