Here's one more notable player from the mid 1930s that was slated to make an appearance in the 1936 Diamond Stars set but didn't get past the design stage. Phil Cavaretta played 22 years in the majors and even won a National League MVP Award in 1945 while leading the league with a .355 batting average. But in 1936, he was an up and coming 19-year who was destined to be left out. This fantastic piece of artwork is the prototype for Cavaretta's would-be DS card, a little splashier in design than most in the series. His name and team are written in pencil in the lower left border. Another fantastic piece of unpublished artwork.
