Considered by many to be the best pure hitter of the post-war era, Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn closed out a 20-year career with a lifetime .338 batting average (highest of any player since Ted Williams) and eight National League batting titles. One of those batting crown seasons was 1984, with Gwynn ahead of the pack at a .351 clip and leading the San Diego Padres to the World Series. The featured Rawlings Adirondack Professional Model P302 Big Stick was used by Tony Gwynn during that 1984 run. Most game-used Gwynn bats come from his mid to late 1990's seasons and it's very rare to find one so close to his rookie year. All of the markings on this stick match Gwynn characteristics for the time period, with plenty of game-use shown in the form of ball marks that have removed some of the black paint on the barrel. A white number "19" appears on the knob and in black marker inside the cupped end of the barrel. The bat is uncracked and exhibits a moderate amount of pine tar residue. A sprawling silver marker signature appears above the block lettering on the barrel. A fabulous gamer from one of the most celebrated slashers of the past half-century! LOA from John Taube - PSA/DNA with a grade of GU 10.
