Quick, if you needed a game-winning homer and could choose any player from the 1970s or 1980s, who would it be? Sure, there are plenty of good answers, but for my money, I'm going with Michael Jack Schmidt. An eight-time National League home run king, Schmidt topped the 30-homer mark in 13 of 14 seasons where he had at least 500 at-bats, winning back to back MVP awards in 1980 and 1981 while adding a third in 1986. The featured war club was put into service by Mike Schmidt during that first National League MVP run of 1980, a season where the Phillies won the championship and Schmidt was also the World Series MVP. This Adirondack "JR5" model bat weighs 35 1/2 ounces and measures 35 1/2 inches, big numbers for a big swinger. The stick is uncracked and shows considerable game use with a multitude of ball marks and deeply embedded stitch marks that all over the surface of the barrel, with evidence of grain checking, pine tar residue, bat rack marks and Schmidt's number "20" written in black marker on the knob. Between the centerbrand and barrel markings is a blue marker Mike Schmidt signature. A wonder gamer of a legendary Hall of Famer and 500 home run club member from the most significant season of his career. LOA from John Taube - PSA/DNA with a grade of PSA/DNA GU 10.
