Losing is never fun, and Babe Ruth knows it. Captured in this portrait, "The Sultan of Swat" no longer looks like the fresh-faced kid that joined the Yankees just five years earlier, appearing much older and watching his team uncharacteristically fail on the field. A departure from the usually lighthearted and playful giant, Ruth appears serious, even somber, in this photo by News Service Inc., portraying an image well beyond that of a man who had just turned 30-year old. Several news stamps and writer's notations are on the reverse, with a stamped date of Jun 16, 1925. Ruth hit a home run that day, but a 5-3 loss left the Yankees languishing well out of first place with a 23-31 record. They would finish the season 12 games under .500, their last losing record for the next 40 years! Some typical wear for an almost century-old snapshot can be seen around the perimeter but the photo holds up well. Photo measures 8 x 10 with LOA from PSA/DNA.
