Having completed his "Luckiest Man on the Face of the Earth" speech to the Yankee Stadium crowd, Hall of Famer Lou Gehrig can no longer hold back the wave of emotion that overtakes him following his farewell announcement. The borderless photo is a type II snapshot that was produced in the 1940s and has multiple handwritten notations, no doubt used over and over in many publications following the event. Having gone from American League Most Valuable Player just three years prior, Gehrig's illness would sadly take his life less than two years after this event. A truly transcendental moment in baseball history, forever frozen in time.
