Not many teams can boast having a 500 home run club member batting second in their lineup, but the Milwaukee Braves could. Before moving to the third spot in the lineup the next season, Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews batted second in 1959. Either way, with "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron batting right behind him, Mathews saw plenty of hittable pitches and parked 512 of them outside the confines of the outfield wall. A two-time National League home run champ, the free swinging third baseman topped the 30 homer mark ten times, nine of them consecutively from 1953-1961. Mathews is the only player in organization history to have played with the franchise while it called Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta home. Presented is one of the few Eddie Mathews game-used bats that we've seen that dates back to the 1950s, an Adirondack model 79A that measures 35 inches and weighs 34.2 ounces. Strong game use is evident with ball and cleat marks all around the barrel, predominantly on the left side as is usual for Mathews bats. Green rack marks are present and Mathews jersey number "41" is written in black marker over the stamped "79A" model number. A dark black marker signature is present to the left of the block lettering on the barrel. A truly magnificent 1950s era gamer from an underrated baseball legend.
