Drafted and signed years before the scandal of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox would entangle him, Charles Comiskey went about business as usual as proven in this June 27th, 1914 letter to team scout George Mills, who was dispatched to Baltimore to evaluate a young pitcher named Babe Ruth just 10 days prior. The Sox were riding a seven-game winning streak that brought them back up to the .500 mark and Comiskey was looking to improve the team further, asking for an opinion on (Buck) Thrasher and (Cliff) Markle from the Norfolk team. Both players eventually saw time in the bigs but neither ever played for the White Sox. The letter carries a bold, clean fountain pen signature of "Chas. A. Comisky" with remnants of another letter glued on the back. LOA from JSA.
