A small investment in this fledgling New York baseball team seems like a good idea in retrospect. This unissued stock certificate represented a chance to buy a piece of the most storied sports franchise in American history, but back in 1903, they were just another team playing a game few understood. Founded in 1903 under the corporate name “Greater New York Baseball Association”, the team became known as the New York Highlanders and later the New York Yankees when they relocated to a different part of the city in 1913. Stock certificates #4, 5 and 7 were discovered having been issued to investors and signed, but this certificate #30 is blank, suggesting the team reached their fundraising goal in short order. Slight wrinkles in the paper are present but c'mon, it's well over a century old. A fantastic find for the Yankees fan that needs something different to add to their collection.
