Absent from the 1954 Topps set, Mickey Mantle fans had to turn their attention elsewhere to land the latest offering of "The Commerce Comet" and found a pretty appealing alternative from the Red Heart Dog Food company. The presented specimen boasts top-notch NM/MT corners and edges and deep blue and orange pigments that make high-grade examples of this issue so special to collectors, especially when you have the benefit of near perfect centering as well. The reverse is fantastic with a clean cardboard canvas housing deep black print, undeniably 1950's in style. Each and every corner stands at attention as if at the entrance to the next grading tier. A card that surely could have graded MINT 9 if not for the normally encountered ever so slight print line that is to the left of the Mick.
