Though it no longer holds true today, only because all of the numbers have been retired, one basic philosophy for New York Yankees fans was that if you're issued a single digit jersey number, it's expected that you'll make an impact. Bobby Richardson did, and although he won't be entering Cooperstown anytime soon, he was a driving force that propelled the Bronx Bombers to the World Series seven times in his ten full seasons, won the World Series MVP award in 1960 and made an amazing defensive play in the bottom of the 9th inning of Game 7 of the 1962 World Series to snatch victory away from the San Francisco Giants; a Bill Mazeroski-type moment with the glove instead of the bat. The offered Yankees road gray flannel was used by Richardson during that 1962 season, maybe even during that championship-winning play in the field! As was customary with major league teams, this jersey was handed down to one of the Yankees' minor-league affiliates after new jerseys were put into service in "The Big Apple" with changes to the logo and jersey number. However, the "Set 1 1962" tag inside the front left tail, Spalding label affixed to the outside of the tail and a script "Richardson" in red thread on a white felt swatch sewn into the collar are all original. While the significance of any Yankees gamer from the early 1960s would surely be worthy of consideration, this classic beauty is potentially one of the most important post-war jerseys of the great Yankees dynasty. LOA from Mile High Card Company.
