It's so often the case that the most valuable collectibles today were commonplace items in their day. Such is the case with 1952 Topps wax packs, now one of the most coveted items in the hobby yet merchants had trouble moving them for a nickel in 1952. The black and white photo of a Woolworth's store display that featured boxes upon boxes of 1952 wax packs in front of 16-card display sheets is well traveled, unbeknownst to the store owner that in 2019, that's many million of dollars worth of product. Offered is a lightly handled 5-cent wax pack that has miraculously survived generations of temptation to find out what treasures lie in wait. This example has been graded by GAI with the respectable mark of 6.5 EX/MT+. Originating from the first series, there's a plethora of potential great pulls that include the always elusive card #1 Pafko as well as Hall of Famers like Rizzuto, Irvin, Spahn, Snider, Roberts and Slaughter, subjects that are extremely tough in high-grade like Loes, Wellman and Wehmeier, the Joe Page and Johnny Sain error cards, and of course, each card could be either a black or red back. Typical signs of light wear are scattered along the green and red wrapper, but that's expected after almost 70 years. A tremendous piece that earns the right to be preserved for all-time, but should the winning bidder roll the dice on this time capsule, it could end up being a very lucrative discovery.
