In the 1920's, Long Beach, California baseball promoter Bill Feistner founded and managed the Shell Oilers, a semi-pro team sponsored by the Shell Oil Company. The team became so popular that Shell built them a stadium in 1922 and teams from around the nation came to California to play them, including Connie Mack's 1929 and 1930 world champion Philadelphia Athletics and Babe Ruth's barnstormers. Featured here is a Shell Oilers uniform from nearly a century ago, including the stirrups. The top tag inside the collar is now blank form excessive wear with the Wm. Lane Co. manufacturer's label below it. The piping around the top of the collar is loose but still attached, exhibiting wonderful game use. An amazing relic from the prime years of Babe Ruth's career.
