Is he still playing? After 25-seasons with Detroit, where he led the NHL in goals five times, was voted the league's MVP six times and won four Stanley Cup Championships, Howe decided ... at age 45 ... to play seven more seasons outside of Detroit. Pictured on this 1953 Parkhurst card, graded KSA 9, Howe advances on a goalie to net one of his career 975 lamp-lighters. Howe was unquestionably the best player in the league at this point, coming off a season where he led the NHL in almost every offensive category, his 49 goals topping the list for the third consecutive season. MINT or better attributes all around, including virtually perfect centering, make this a necessity to any advanced '53 Parkie set builder or Gordie Howe collector.
